UMBC has tabbed Stacy Carone as its associate director of athletics for sports medicine, director of athletics Tim Hall announced earlier this month.
Among her responsibilities, Carone will coordinate the development and implementation of all policies and procedures pertaining to UMBC student and student-athlete health and well-being. She will oversee and provide comprehensive leadership for all aspects of athletic training, strength and conditioning programs and practices for all UMBC varsity sports and coordinate risk management and injury prevention efforts for student-athlete health and well-being personnel and facilities
The native of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. just completed her second year at Rutgers University, working with women's basketball as the team's primary athletic trainer.
Previously, Carone spent nine years at Villanova University, serving the last four seasons as the athletic trainer for the Wildcat women's basketball program. While at Villanova, Carone coordinated all aspects of the women's basketball team's health care and assisted with the development and execution of the strength and conditioning program.
Carone began her career as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Villanova in 2007 working alongside the football, field hockey and softball teams. In 2009, she was hired as a full time contracted athletic trainer through NovaCare Rehabilitation and served as the primary athletic trainer for the men's soccer team.
A 2007 graduate of the University of South Florida, Carone earned a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training and in May 2009, earned a masters of public administration from Villanova University.
Carone is a board certified member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) and an active member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
In addition to being a certified athletic trainer, Carone is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist, spinning certified fitness instructor and an adjunct professor. Moreover, the newest member of #RetrieverNation is a National Academy of Sports Medicine Corrective Exercise Specialist, American Red Cross Instructor and has served on various medical committees on the Alliance for Intercollegiate Sports Medicine.
Stacy is married to Jim Carone and the couple young one son, Colton. Jim is currently the head baseball coach at Wagner College and was the 2018 Northeast Conference Coach of the Year.
