FAIRFAX, Va. – The UMBC swimming and diving teams completed day one of the Patriot Invitational on Thursday, November 16. The men currently sit in fifth place with 127 points, while the women are in seventh place with 90 points.
The men saw top 10 finishes from sophomore Ilia Rattsev (Moscow, Russia) in the 200 IM, taking sixth with a time of 1:52.98, and the 50 free, after he touched in with a time of 20.87 in fifth place. Freshman Kai Wisner (Syracuse, N.Y.) finished seventh in the 500 free with a time of 4:36.66.
On the boards, Elijah Wright (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) finished fifth in the 1 meter dive with a score of 250.35.
On the women's side, junior Hania Moro (New Cairo, Egypt) earned silver in the 500 free after touching in with a time of 4:55.85. Moro also helped the 400 medley relay team of Emily Vance, Madyson Popalis, and Natalija Marin earn fifth place with a time of 3:51.24.
In the 200 free relay, the team of Vance, Popalis, Laura Massicotte, and Megan Allison finished eighth in a time of 1:37.46.
The Retrievers will return to the pool tomorrow, with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. and final heats starting at 6 p.m.
