CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—UMBC senior attack Erika Braerman (Fallston, Md./Fallston) earned the first America East Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week award of the 2011 season, while sophomore defender Jamie Fahey (Baldwin, Md./Loch Raven) was named Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The awards cover all games through Feb. 20.

Braerman led the Retrievers to a season-opening 19-7 victory on Feb. 11 with a career-high eight points on five goals and three assists, and she was named America East Player of the Game. The five goals, which also matched her career best, came on just vie shots. A senior captain who earned all-conference second-team honors last season after leading the Retrievers with 54 points, Braerman also added a ground ball, a draw control and a caused turnover against the Patriots.

The reigning America East Rookie of the Year, Fahey picked up where she left off a year ago, leading the Retrievers on the defensive end with four ground balls, a career-high four caused turnovers and two draw controls.

The Player of the Week award is the second of Braerman's career, as she also garnered the honor for the first week of the 2010 season, while Fahey earns her first career weekly accolade.

The Retrievers return to action on Wednesday, when they visit Florida.
