Women’s Lacrosse Inks Nine for 2012 Season

BALTIMORE—Nine women's lacrosse players have signed National Letters of Intent to compete for the Retrievers in the 2012 season, head coach Kelly Berger announced today.

"I am really excited about the incoming class for 2012," Berger said. "This class is full of talent and has many multi-dimensional athletes. They have the talent to take UMBC very far and help continue to compete for an America East title every year. I look forward to watching them grow in the four years they are here, not only as athletes, but as young women."

Anna Barnett, Goalie, 5-6, Argyle, Texas/John H. Guyer – Barnett, who spent the first two years of her high school career in North Carolina, is a three-time all-conference and all-state goalkeeper. She helped lead Coppell High School to the Texas state title in 2010.

Alyssa Blevins, Defense, 5-5, Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright – Blevins was selected to the 2010-11 Under-19 U.S. National Team which will compete at the World Championships in Germany this summer. She is a two-time all-county honoree and also earned Baltimore All-Metro first-team accolades as a junior. Blevins helped lead the Mustangs to the state finals in 2010, as well.

Lexi Bristow, Defense, 5-7, Annapolis, Md./Broadneck – Bristow is a three-year varsity letterwinner who helped lead the Bruins to the district and regional championship games in 2009. She was named to the all-county second team by the Annapolis Capital as a junior.

Michaela Guerrera, Attack/Midfield, 5-0, San Diego, Calif./Coronado – Guerrera is a highly decorated player from Southern California. Last season, she was tabbed an All-American and an Academic All-American, as well as City Conference Player of the Year and San Diego Union-Tribune's All-San Diego first team. A four-year varsity starter, she has led the Islanders to a pair of California Interscholastic Federation finals. She was also named the California Youth Lacrosse Player of the Year in 2007.

Jordan Lyons, Attack/Midfield, 5-11, Peterborough, Ontario/St. Peter's – Lyons was selected to the 2011 Under-19 Canadian National Team after ranking seventh in provincial U19 scoring in 2009. She was the St. Peter's Secondary School Female Athlete of the Year and was also voted team MVP. In addition, she helped lead the Saints to three straight undefeated regular seasons and back-to-back provincial championships.

Rachel Neff, Defense, 5-7, Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright – Neff was named her team's defensive MVP in 2009, when she was also selected to the all-county second team. In addition, she helped lead the Mustangs to the state finals in 2010.

Michelle Platz, Attack/Midfield, 5-7, Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula – Platz was named the Girls Greater Cincinnati League Player of the Year in 2010. She is a two-time all-conference selection, earning first-team honors last season after being tabbed to the second team in 2009. She also earned both all-state and all-district accolades from the Ohio Schoolgirls Lacrosse Coaches Association as a junior.

Courtney Thompson, Midfield/Defense, 5-11, Edgewater, Md./South River – Thompson is a U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American who helped lead the Seahawks to the regional and state titles last season.

Abby Wilson, Midfield/Attack, 5-8, Bel Air, Md./Fallston – Wilson is a first-team all-county and all-metro honoree who was also selected to play for the Under-19 U.S. National Team that will represent the United States in England. In addition, she helped lead the Cougars to the 2009 state championship, when she scored two goals and added three assists.
