    UMBC baseball sophomore Peter Godrick (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) was named to the America East All-Academic Team, the conference announced on Wednesday. Godrick was one of ten student-athletes to receive the award.

    UMBC baseball head coach Liam Bowen was set to start his first full season at the helm of UMBC baseball in 2020 after taking over late in the 2019 season. The Retrievers would drop the first five games of the Bowen era against UNC Charlotte and George Washington before giving Bowen his first career win 9-8 against Stetson in late February.

    UMBC baseball picked up win number three on the year with a 4-2 win against Coppin State on Tuesday afternoon. The Retrievers were led by Peter Godrick (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) who drove in a pair of runs, including the go-ahead run in the fourth to lift the Retrievers past the Eagles. 
  • UMBC Baseball Kicks Off Nine-Game Homestand Against Coppin State on Tuesday

    UMBC baseball kicks off a nine-game homestand and 13 of their next 14 at home against the Eagles on Tuesday afternoon with first pitch moved up to 3 p.m. The Retrievers are coming off a 1-2 weekend that saw UMBC fall to Fairleigh Dickinson (3-1) and Navy (8-6) sandwiched around a big 10-5 win against Penn State on Saturday. 
  • Navy Uses Late Push to Defeat UMBC Baseball, 8-6 on Sunday

    UMBC baseball held a lead for most of the day on Sunday, but four runs late by the Midshipmen gave them an 8-6 win. The Retrievers held a 6-2 lead after four innings, but Navy scored the last six runs of the game in the win.
  • Retriever Bats Come Alive in 10-5 Win Against Penn State on Saturday

    UMBC baseball found their groove on Saturday, belting 15 hits in a 10-5 win against power five foe Penn State. Ryan Brown (Hagerstown, Md./St. James/Charleston Southern) had three doubles, driving in two runs in the win. 
  • Fairleigh Dickinson Defeats UMBC Baseball, 3-1 on Friday

    UMBC baseball dropped a 3-1 decision to Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday afternoon at a rainy Alumni Field. The game was delayed in the eighth for an hour rain delay. Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) scored the lone run in the ninth off a Ryan Brown (Hagerstown, Md./St. James/Charleston Southern) sacrifice fly.
  • UMBC Baseball Hosts Fairleigh Dickinson, Penn State; Travel to Navy This Weekend

    UMBC baseball will make their 2020 home debut on Friday and Saturday after starting the season on a nine-game road swing. The Retrievers are 1-8 on the year, with the lone win coming at Stetson last weekend.

    UMBC baseball jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third, but the Tigers used an 11 run fourth inning to pull ahead for good in a 21-4 win on Wednesday. Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) drove in three of the four runs on a two-out double in the third. 
  • UMBC Baseball Concludes Season Opening Road Swing at Towson on Tuesday

    UMBC baseball will conclude their nine-game season-opening road swing at local-rival Towson on Tuesday. The Retrievers are coming off a 2-1 series loss to Stetson this weekend. The Retrievers took game one 9-8 on Friday before falling in the last two games 8-7 (F/12) and 5-0 to fall to 1-7 on the year.

    UMBC baseball dropped the series finale against the Hatters, 5-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Retrievers managed just five hits in the contest, with Michael Cilio (Chester, N.J.) collecting two of his own.
  • Torres, Brown Hit Home Runs; Hatter Defeat UMBC 8-7 in Extra Innings on Saturday

    UMBC baseball went back and forth with Stetson, getting a big two-run home run from Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) in the eighth to tie it up and force extras. However, the Hatters got the winning RBI single in the 12th to pick up the win on Saturday.
  • O’Saben, Retrievers Use Big Second Inning to Pick Up First Win of the Year, 9-8 Against Stetson

    UMBC baseball put up eight runs in the second inning en route to their first win of the year, 9-8 on Friday at Stetson. Blaze O’Saben (Warrenton, Va.) had four hits in the game, driving in two with two stolen bases in the win.

    UMBC baseball continues its road swing at Stetson this weekend for a three-game series. The Retrievers have opened the season 0-5 after most recently falling 4-2 at George Washington on Tuesday. Colin Casey (Ipswich, Mass.) led the way with two-RBI, scoring Dmitri Floyd (Dover, Del.) both times.

    UMBC baseball battled throughout, but could not complete the comeback, falling 4-2 to George Washington on Tuesday afternoon. Colin Casey (Ipswich, Mass.) drove in both runs with an RBI single and sacrifice fly in the contest.

    UMBC baseball continues its nine-game road swing to open the season at George Washington on Tuesday afternoon. The Retrievers are coming off an 0-4 series against Charlotte this past weekend. Senior Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) had a strong weekend with four hits including two triples and one double.

    The Retrievers jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the second inning, but the 49ers would score four straight to take a 5-2 lead and never look back in an 11-6 win over UMBC in the series finale on Sunday. Blaze O’Saben (Warrenton, Va.) drove in two of the six runs in the contest.

    UMBC baseball fell in both games of their doubleheader with the 49ers on Saturday, 6-1 and 4-0. The Retrievers were held to just six hits throughout both games, as they fall to 0-3 on the year. Charlotte improves to 4-3 after the two wins.

    UMBC baseball embarks on the 2020 campaign this weekend when the team travels to Charlotte for a weekend set with the 49ers. The Retrievers will have first-year head coach Liam Bowen leading the team, the fifth head coach in program history who has served as the recruiting coordinator and pitching coach the past nine years.

    After making it to the America East tournament four out of the last five years, and winning it all in 2017, UMBC baseball looks to start the new decade on the right foot as they look to capture their second America East Championship in 2020. The 33rd season of Division I baseball for the Black and Gold will begin on Friday, Feb. 21 in Charlotte, N.C. against the Charlotte 49ers for a four-game series.
  • UMBC Baseball Announces 2020 Schedule

    First-year head coach Liam Bowen announced the 2020 schedule on Thursday that features 27 home games. UMBC is coming off a 22-31 season in 2019, going 6-17 in America East play and missing the conference tournament for the first time since 2014.
