No. 11 High Point Defeats Men's Lacrosse, 22-13

High Point, N.C. – The 11th-ranked High Point Panthers (6-1) scored 11 second quarter goals to break open a close game and defeated visiting UMBC (1-4), 22-13, at Vert Stadium.

Sophomore midfielder Steven Zichelli (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) led a balanced offensive effort with two goals and one assist. Senior midfielders Josh Jordan (Lunenburg, Mass.) and Zach Kalas (Annapolis, Md./Spalding), and junior attackman Ryan Frawley (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) also tallied a pair of goals for the visitors.

The Retrievers fell behind, 4-1, but rattled off three goals in the span of 2:57 to knot the score with 4:21 to play in the first period. Zichelli scored the first and third goals of that run. But the hosts responded with two goals in an 18-second span to take a 6-4 lead after 15 minutes.

UMBC was still within 9-6 after Frawley's first score of the day at the 11:03 mark of the second period.  But, after a five minute lull, HPU outscored UMBC, 8-1, in the final 6:10 of the half and led, 17-7 at the break.

Sophomore Cian Chung (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and freshmen Keith Dukes (Bowie, Md./DeMatha) each scored their first career goals in the second half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tommy Lingner (Fort Salonga, N.Y.) made 10 saves and allowed 20 goals in the first 45 minutes of play, as HPU outshot UMBC, 45-33.

The Retrievers open America East play on Saturday, March 16 when they welcome Vermont to UMBC Stadium. The opening face-off is set for noon.
