Wichita, Kan. – The UMBC men’s tennis team dropped a lengthy, hard-fought 4-2 decision to Illinois State in the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, held at Crestview Country Club.

LOUIS – UMBC senior Melker Svärd (media and communication studies) was among eleven Missouri Valley Conference men's tennis student-athletes that have been named to the 2016 MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team by a vote of the league’s men's tennis sports information directors, with approval from head coaches.
BALTIMORE – UMBC split six singles matches with conference rival Stony Brook, but the Seawolves’ victory in doubles propelled the Seawolves to a 4-3 victory over the Retrievers at the UMBC Tennis Complex on March 26.
The Retriever tennis program and the entire UMBC community mourn the passing of Sol Schwartz, ’92, biological sciences, on March 16, 2016. As a senior, Schwartz recorded one of the best seasons in UMBC tennis history with a singles record of 19-2 in the 1991-92 campaign.
BALTIMORE – The UMBC men’s tennis team started brightly, winning the doubles point ,but visiting George Washington won two of three, three-set singles matches to edge the Retrievers, 4-2, at 40 West Racquet Club.
The UMBC men’s tennis team swept a pair of matches in Connecticut this weekend by identical 6-1 scores. The Retrievers defeated conference rival Hartford on Friday and outlasted Fairfield in New Haven on Saturday.
New Haven, Conn. – UMBC senior Justin Carter (Randallstown, Md.) defeated one of the nation’s top players in singles, as the Retriever men’s tennis team fell just short in an upset bid, falling at Yale, 4-3.
Corpus Christi, Texas – The 61st-ranked Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders won a pair of matches over visiting UMBC, defeating the Retrievers, 4-2, in the morning match-up and triumphing, 4-0, in the afternoon.
Annapolis – UMBC’s Justin Carter (Randallstown, Md.), Elliot Loubatie (Paris, France) and Biyik Akinshemoyin (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) won their singles flights at the Navy Invitational, which concluded the Retrievers’ fall campaign. All three players swept their three matches in the three-day event.
Blacksburg, Va. – UMBC senior Jaan Kononov (Talinn, Estonia) advanced to the quarterfinals USTA/ITA Regional Championships, besting a pair of players in straight sets in matches played at Virginia Tech University.

Tulsa, Ok. – UMBC senior Jaan Kononov (Talinn, Estonia) advanced to the second round of qualifying in the 2015 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Tennis Championships with a dramatic 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over the host university’s Dominic Bechard at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
UMBC senior tennis standout Jaan Kononov has been ranked No. 69 in the nation in the preseason Oracle/ITA Division I Men's National Singles Rankings. He has also been placed into the qualifying round of the 2015 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships, which takes opens on Sunday, Oct. 3 in Tulsa, Okla
SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced the 2015 ITA All-Academic Teams and ITA Scholar-Athlete award winners and both of UMBC’s teams are well represented. Head Coach Rob Hubbard’s women’s team earned ITA All-Academic Team status and seven student-athletes achieved the distinction of ITA Scholar-Athlete. In addition, four men’s players earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.
