Staten Island, N.Y.—UMBC track and field competed at the Great Dane Classic on Saturday, hosted by UAlbany. The Retrievers got a handful of top ten finishes from their distance runners on the day against a tough field.
Patrick Duboyce finished just outside the top ten, taking 11th in the 5,000m run. Duboyce crossed the finish line in a time of 15:24.77.
In the field, Isahq Rana led the way with a pair of top ten finishes. Rana took fourth in the shot put with a toss of 16.38m (53'9") and placed eighth in the weighted throw with his best toss of 15.53m (50'11.5").
On the women's side, a trio of Retrievers finished near the top of their respective races. Angelina Oputa took 15th in the 800m run, clocking in at 2:18.04.
Sophia Cologer had the best finish by a Retriever on Saturday, taking 12th in the 3,000m run, finishing in a time of 10:31.30. Harmony Roche added a 13th place finish in the 5,000m run, finishing the race in a time of 18:10.79.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Mercedes Tillman, Essence Fredericks, Nailah Johnson and D'Nique Phillip took ninth in a time of 3:55.24.
Nneoma Edokobi and Jennifer Nelson led the way in the field with an 11th and 13th place finish in the shot put and weighted throw. Edokobi had her best toss of 12.36m (40'6.75") while Nelson threw a 15.54m (51'0").
UMBC is back in action on Friday, Jan. 22 at the NYC Gotham Cup. The meet will be held at the famous Armory Track in New York City starting at 10 a.m.
