Baltimore, Md.—Fresh off a 3-1 win against Bryant on Saturday, the UMBC volleyball team will open the home portion of the schedule against local-rival Howard on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. The Retrievers come into the match at 3-3 on the year, while Howard sits at 1-7.

Last Time Out:
The Retrievers went 1-2 at the UConn Dog Pound Challenge this past weekend. The Retrievers dropped the first two matches against James Madison (2-3) and Connecticut (0-3) before picking up a 3-1 win against Bryant in the finale.
Scouting the Bison:
Howard comes into the match with a 1-7 record, having lost three of their last four this past weekend. The lone Bison win came against Western Carolina, 3-1.
Khaila Donaldson leads the squad on offense with 100 kills on the young season. She is hitting at a 3.33 clip with 11 service aces, adding in 67 digs, and 11 blocks. Briana Jackson leads the team with 193 assists, averaging 6.43 assists per set. Jackson also leads the team with 15 service aces.
The Retrievers and Bison have met 24 times before Tuesday, with the UMBC holding a 21-3 advantage. The Retrievers have won the past 11 matchups including a 3-1 win in our nation's capital last year. UMBC has won the last four matchups in Baltimore.
Out of the Gates:
The freshman class has come in and made an immediate impact on the team. Freshman outside hitter Maddie Schneider (Olathe, Kan./Olathe Northwest) earned America East Player and Rookie of the Week on Aug. 31 for her performance at the RMU Invitational. Schneider finished with 36 kills and 17 digs. Fellow rookie Makenzie Morgen (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton) ended her first collegiate weekend with 35 kills, recording a double-double against Robert Morris.
Following the match with the Bison, the Retrievers will host their annual Maddie Bingaman Memorial Tournament on Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12. The two day tournament will feature five schools, and will kick off with UMBC hosting Morgan State on Friday at 11:00 a.m.
