Baltimore, Md. -- Seniors Brooke Hayden (Mt.Airy, Md.) and Franchesca Reed (Aurora, Colo.) each filled the stat sheet, but it wasn't enough as visiting Hartford (14-12, 5-4) defeated the UMBC Volleyball team (6-16, 3-6 AE) in four sets (13-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-12) on Sunday afternoon.
Reed finished with 11 kills on .318 hitting and seven blocks, while Hayden tied for the match lead with 16 digs. Reed became just the sixth player in program history to accumulate 300 blocks, and now sits alone in fifth place. Redshirt junior setter Taylor Dunn (Virginia Beach, Va.) had 37 assists and nine digs, while freshman Kamani Conteh had a team-high 12 kills.
Niki Khoshatefeh (Temecula, Calif.) had 10 kills on .350 hitting with three digs, an ace and a block. Classmate Emily Ferketic (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had five blocks and three kills, while Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn.) chipped in with seven kills, seven digs and three blocks. Defensive specialists Gabrielle Curran (Naples, Fla.) and Kayla Thomas (Silver Spring, Md.) added nine and six digs, respectively.
The Retrievers will conclude the 2019 season next Sunday at Binghamton. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
